The New American Alphabet

The New American Alphabet is a series of twenty-six 20x16 inch paintings which appropriate the form of educational English language alphabet posters, riddling them with misspellings and references to the negative byproducts of the American political system. Works like K is for Korruption and P is for Profit are juxtaposed next to others like Palm Tree is for Burgers–which uses an emoji of a tree in place of a letter. Together, these works reexamine the building blocks of speech and politics to skewer institutions of knowledge production, systems of economic inequality, and symbols of social control.
